Support Lasting Social Change through Innovation!

The work of the Wells Foundation is supported by an annual draw from our endowment and by gifts from individuals who support our mission and vision—either through an annual gift or a bequest to the foundation in their will.  Wells Foundation is currently soliciting funds to support two key initiatives that address major social needs identified in our community:

Ending Homelessness:  Emphasizing street outreach, housing, service development improvement, self-sufficiency programs and systems improvement.

Wells Foundation programs supported through annual and multi-year grants have included supporting the City-County initiative to end homelessness, “Heading Home Hennepin” focused on Street Outreach at St. Stephen’s Human Services, Pillsbury House’s Street Survival program for homeless youth and Project for Pride in Living’s ReStart for ex-cons who need housing once employed. For example, the Wells supported Street Outreach has found housing in the last 3 years for over 200 long-term homeless who each average a decade of living on the streets. 

Economic Betterment:  Creating a new low interest loan program for community nonprofits working to improve our community.

Wells is in the initial stages of developing the loan program that is the basis of our economic betterment effort.  This new approach will allow Wells support to be recycled over time or leveraged through the repayment of the principal of the loans and the small interest on the principal.  Such project related investment, or PRI activity, has been growing among many philanthropic organizations in recent years both as a mechanism for supporting social needs in the community and as part of the investment program of foundation endowments. These low interest loans to nonprofits will support projects such as building construction or reconstruction; site development, land or building acquisition; equipment purchases; operating and maintenance expenses; or working capital for a new project or initiative.
